Battlestate Games has turned The Lab and Factory into outbreak zones for a major Halloween event, with a branching questline, a returning scythe wielding Tagilla, and an Arena mode that takes everyone's guns away.
Escape from Tarkov's Halloween event is live now, launched by Battlestate Games on Thursday, October 29, 2026. A dangerous virus has broken out across Tarkov and triggered a mass outbreak of aggressive infected, and the event spreads across both games in the series. The main game gets infected versions of two of its most punishing locations and a new questline built around containing the outbreak, while Escape from Tarkov: Arena gets a slasher inspired mode where firearms are banned completely and everyone fights with melee weapons in horror movie masks.
Tarkov's Halloween events have a reputation among players as some of the best the game puts on all year, and this year's edition looks like one of the biggest yet. Studio head Nikita Buyanov spent days teasing it beforehand, calling it pretty big and promising a surprise, and the full reveal delivers on that scale.
The outbreak zones: Infected Lab and Infected Factory
The epicenters of the outbreak are two dedicated locations, The Infected Lab and Infected Factory, which sit in their own separate tab in map selection. Both are special infected versions of maps players already know well, The Lab and The Old Factory, and both have been completely overrun by the epidemic.
These are high risk raids even by Tarkov standards. The infected locations are accessible only to small groups of players, and insurance is disabled, so anything you take in and lose is simply gone. In a game where a normal raid already puts your whole loadout on the line, the outbreak zones raise the stakes further, which is exactly the point. The rewards for pushing into them are tied to the event's main questline.
A questline that lets you choose your risk
The new story questline is built around a choice in how you respond to the crisis. Players can help enforce the quarantine in standard locations, which carries a moderate level of risk, or they can venture directly into the isolated outbreak zones to search for vaccine components, where the infected are packed in and the danger is far higher.
That branching approach is a smart bit of design for an event like this. Squads that want the full horror experience can dive into the Lab and Factory, while players who would rather progress more carefully can still take part from the regular maps. Either way, progressing through the story quests and clearing out infected earns commemorative achievements and themed rewards, including an exclusive event poster and valuable in-game resources.
The infected are not all the same
Battlestate has split the infected into distinct types with their own behavior. Fast infected, slow infected, and ranged infected have each been given more distinctive behavior and rebalanced combat mechanics, including surprise attacks and ambushes. Knowing which type you are hearing around a corner changes how you should play the fight, and the ranged infected in particular should keep players from treating any horde as a simple point and shoot problem.
Two bigger threats headline the enemy list. Infected Tagilla, wielding his scythe, returns to raids, and infected Black Division operatives have also appeared. Night raids get more dangerous still, thanks to increased Cultist activity after dark. If you are heading into the outbreak zones, a night run is the hardest version of an already hard event.
Arena goes full slasher with Bloodlust
The second half of the event lives in Escape from Tarkov: Arena. CheckPoint: Bloodlust is a team based 5v5 mode built on the existing CheckPoint mode, with one huge twist. Firearms are completely disabled. Players enter the arena wearing masks inspired by iconic horror movie killers and have to rely exclusively on melee weapons, knives and blunt instruments included.
For a series built on some of the most detailed gunplay in any shooter, taking the guns away entirely is a bold swing, and it fits the slasher theme perfectly. Bloodlust also pays well while it runs. Matches and kills earn double XP, Battle Pass progression gets a 1.5x bonus, cash prizes are on offer, and completing the special questline earns the Mask Off achievement.
Jump in while Halloween weekend is here
The announcement does not list an end date for the event, so there is no confirmed deadline to plan around yet. What is certain is the timing. The event is live right now, in the heart of Halloween week, with Halloween itself landing on Saturday. Tarkov's infected events have been fan favorites before, and Forbes noted this one brings back one of the best events in the game's history in a new form.
Whether you load into the Infected Lab with your best gear on the line, play it safer on quarantine duty, or leave the guns behind for a few rounds of Bloodlust in Arena, this is the biggest thing happening in Tarkov right now. Just do not take anything into the outbreak zones that you are not prepared to lose. Insurance will not save it this time.
