SEGA and CyberConnect2 have brought Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 to Nintendo Switch 2 with a 60 FPS frame rate, sharper visuals, and cross-generation multiplayer. If you already own the game on the original Switch, the upgrade pass is completely free.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the arena fighter launched on October 29, 2026 in North America, with European availability following on November 2. It is the same game that launched earlier on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Switch, rebuilt to take advantage of the newer hardware, and it arrives alongside a milestone worth noting: the Hinokami Chronicles series has now sold more than 6 million copies across its two games.
What the Switch 2 edition actually improves
Two upgrades headline this edition. The game now runs at 60 frames per second, double the frame rate of the original Switch release, which matters in a fast arena fighter built around parries, dashes, and tag-team combos. Visuals have also been upgraded across the board, so CyberConnect2’s painterly, anime-faithful style holds up far better on a big TV. Just as important, the Switch 2 edition supports cross-generation multiplayer: Switch and Switch 2 players can fight each other in both the local two-player mode and online Versus Mode, so buying the new console does not split your friend group in half.
The free upgrade, and its one catch
If you own The Hinokami Chronicles 2 on Nintendo Switch, digitally or physically, you can move to the Switch 2 version at no extra cost through a free upgrade pass. No loyalty scheme, no ten dollar toll. There is one catch, and it is worth knowing before you jump in: the Infinity Castle Character Pass is not included in the free upgrade. If you want those fighters on Switch 2, the pass has to be bought separately through the Nintendo eShop.
Editions and prices
New buyers have three ways in. The digital Standard Edition costs $39.99 and includes the base game plus two Character Unlock Keys, for Academy Rengoku and Academy Uzui. The digital Ultimate Edition costs $64.99 and bundles in the Infinity Castle Character Pass along with additional bonus content. The physical edition costs $59.99 and includes both the base game and the Infinity Castle Character Pass on the cartridge.
What is in the Infinity Castle Character Pass
The pass adds seven fighters to the Versus Mode roster, all drawn from the Infinity Castle arc: Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Giyu Tomioka, and Shinobu Kocho in their Infinity Castle forms, plus the demons Akaza, Doma, and Kaigaku. With the pass installed, the roster grows to 54 playable characters, the biggest lineup the series has had.
Why this release matters
Free next-generation upgrades are still not a given in 2026, and plenty of publishers charge for exactly the kind of frame rate and visual bump SEGA is giving away here. For Demon Slayer fans, this is now the best portable version of one of the most faithful anime arena fighters around, and it keeps the entire Nintendo player base in one matchmaking pool. Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch 2, and also on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, and Nintendo Switch.
