S-GAME’s wuxia action RPG sold more than 4 million copies in 72 hours and posted the biggest single player Steam launch of 2026, peaking at 833,921 concurrent players.

A brand new name just posted one of the biggest launch weeks of the year. S-GAME announced on November 2 that Phantom Blade Zero sold more than 4 million copies in its first 72 hours across PlayStation 5 and PC, following its release on October 28, 2026. For a new IP from a studio most players had never heard of two years ago, that is a staggering debut.
The Numbers Behind the Launch
The sales figure is only half the story. On Steam, the game peaked at 833,921 concurrent players over its first weekend according to SteamDB tracking, with Steam Charts putting the peak at 822,361. Either way, it is the biggest single player Steam launch of 2026, clearing Hollow Knight: Silksong at 578,000 and Subnautica 2 at 467,000. At points during the weekend it sat above multiplayer giants like PUBG and Dota 2 in the most played rankings, and it became Steam's best selling game by revenue, ahead of far bigger names. Nearly 400,000 people were still playing on PC alone when the milestone post went up.
How It Stacks Up Against Wukong
The obvious comparison is Black Myth: Wukong, the last Chinese action epic to explode like this. Wukong sold 10 million copies in three days in 2024 and peaked at over 2.4 million concurrent Steam players, so Phantom Blade Zero lands at roughly 40 percent of that record pace. That is still remarkable company. Wukong was a once in a decade phenomenon, and S-GAME is now the second studio to prove how large the global audience for this style of game has become. The demand was visible early: the game's director revealed in September that Phantom Blade Zero had passed 3 million wishlists, and analytics firm Alinea estimated around 850,000 pre-orders before launch, with the majority of early sales coming from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong and roughly three quarters of copies sold on Steam.
Critics and Players Agree
The reception matches the sales. Phantom Blade Zero holds a Metacritic score of 88, and its Steam user reviews sit at 89 percent positive. The game is a wuxia inspired action RPG built around fast, stylish sword combat, and it launched digital only at $59.99 for the standard edition and $69.99 for the Deluxe Edition. Physical PS5 editions are planned for 2027, which means every one of those 4 million copies so far was a digital sale.
The Wave Behind It
The money tells the same story as the player counts. Alinea Analytics estimated the game had already generated around $43 million in early revenue from pre-orders alone, before the launch weekend pushed the total far higher. Just as notable is where the audience sits: roughly three quarters of copies sold on PC rather than console, a split that would have been unthinkable for a game like this a decade ago. Coming two years after Black Myth: Wukong proved the model, Phantom Blade Zero makes it a pattern. Big budget, single player, globally launched action games out of China are no longer a curiosity. They are a pillar of the release calendar, and Western publishers are now the ones watching the numbers.
What Comes Next
The question now is staying power. Launch peaks fade fast for single player games, but a 4 million copy head start gives S-GAME a huge base for word of mouth, updates and a possible awards season run. It also sets a new bar for 2026: any single player game launching from here on out will be measured against 833,921. Two years ago, most players could not have named this studio. This week, it owns the biggest single player launch of the year.
