Writer Haris Orkin confirmed he's working on the story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem — and let slip it will explore Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer even further. A return to the Spencer Mansion may be on the table.

The slip

Speaking at Meadowlark Comic Con, Requiem writer Haris Orkin was asked about the game's upcoming story expansion. Capcom confirmed a “major story expansion” was in the works earlier this year, but shared zero details about what it would cover. Orkin filled in the gap — maybe a little too eagerly.

“We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem, you kind of understand that more, and then in the DLC you'll understand it even further,” he said. Then, laughing: “I probably shouldn't say that, but yeah!”

For the uninitiated: Oswell E. Spencer co-founded the Umbrella Corporation and spent decades pulling strings behind the T-virus. He didn't physically appear until Resident Evil 5 — where Wesker killed him — but Requiem explores his character and regrets in greater depth through flashbacks.

The mansion rumor

Here's where it gets interesting. Prolific Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem claimed earlier this year that Capcom recreated the Spencer Mansion — the iconic location from the original 1996 game — for Requiem, but cut it before release. The theory: it returns as the DLC setting.

It's still just a rumor, but Orkin's comments add fuel. Since Spencer is long dead by the time Requiem takes place, the DLC would almost have to go backward — a prequel story, flashbacks, or a return to where it all started. The mansion is the most obvious candidate.

One wrinkle: a full remake of the original Resident Evil is reportedly in the works, and the upcoming Resident Evil Veronica remake features a mansion replica inside its Antarctic facility. Too many mansions could spoil the novelty — but for longtime fans, going home to where it all began never really gets old.

KongMNG's take

Requiem sold 8 million copies and the series just turned 30 — Capcom is clearly all-in on this one. A Spencer-focused DLC makes total sense: he's the closest thing Resident Evil has to a final boss of its own lore, and we've never really gotten his full story. If the mansion comes back with modern visuals, that's an instant day-one for me.
