Mycopunk, the co-op looter shooter from Pigeons at Play and Devolver Digital, leaves Steam Early Access on October 20 — and launches straight into the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog the same day for Extra and Premium members.
What is Mycopunk
You play as the New Atlas Hazard Crew — a squad of robot rejects hired by the SAXON corporation as exterminators after a planet-wide fungal catastrophe starts corrupting technology and twisting it into hostile alien life. Think Risk of Rain meets Borderlands with a heavy dose of bug-themed sci-fi absurdism.
The core loop is mission-based: drop into a region with up to 4-player online co-op, battle waves of mycological monsters, and collect loot to slot into a grid-based upgrade system with over 500 hand-crafted mods. Combine upgrades in unexpected ways — a deflector shield on a chainsaw, healing mods stacked into a support build, or turn yourself into a walking bomb.
The PS Plus angle
Sony confirmed the day-one Game Catalog inclusion back in September's State of Play, and PlayStation's official channels have now pinned the date: October 20. The full October Extra/Premium lineup gets announced around October 14, so Mycopunk is the early reveal.
The game is also a PS5 debut — it's been PC-only since entering Early Access on July 10, 2025. Over a year of player feedback has gone into the 1.0 release, and it holds 88% Very Positive on Steam. Standalone price is $14.99.
Why day-one on PS Plus matters
Co-op games live or die on player population, and launching straight into the subscription guarantees a healthy day-one community. It's a strategy that's worked for plenty of PS5 titles — and for a game built around 4-player squads, it could be the difference between thriving and ghost-town lobbies.
KongMNG's take
A year of Early Access polish, 88% positive, Devolver publishing, and free on PS Plus Extra at launch — this is one of the easiest recommendations of the month. If you've got a squad and a subscription, October 20 is circled.
